Welcome

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My name is Craig Small. I invite you to experience countries of the world through my eyes. In this blog I write only of countries I have visited. As much as I can, I try to keep an unbiased opinion at the same time as sharing the experiences I’ve had in each place.

Information for the countries I list is comprised of my own knowledge as well as from Wikipedia, CIA World Factbook and a number of BBC websites. All the photographs I use here are mine alone and are not borrowed from any other site. Please leave any comments or suggestions where you feel necessary, I will read them all and reply if need be.

    • Snooks:

It’s been a while since I left Scotland to venture anywhere else, but I’ll be going away soon I hope. I plan to go to Thailand for a month or so to take my Thai boxing further and later next year I hope to work in Africa for a few months. I plan to visit Madagascar, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.

      Where are you from?

  5. Impressive!

  6. Amazing Craig! The number of locations you have visited. Your next step should take you to continents you have yet to explore. Wishing you safe journey as you course through subsequent expeditions.

  7. Craig, Great site. When I met you working in the hotel I thought “There is more to this guy than meets the eye”. Your travels are very interesting indeed and there is a possible career in travel writing should you want it.

Look forward to seeing you soon in Edinburgh.

    All the best mate,
    Pete

  8. Hey Craig!

Found your website obviously… looks awesome! However something is missing… I noticed that Canada wasn’t on the list

Too chily here for you? Would you need an incentive?

Anyways New Years was a blast! and it was great meeting you… 🙂

  9. Finally managed to have a look at your site – fairly impressive. Hope you manage to add to the list of countries… Loving the pictures. Think some areas are probably due for an update by now though.
Wish you well, as always. Y

  10. I appreciate your post, it is interesting and compelling. I have found my way here through Google, I shall get back once more 🙂

  11. I actually wanted to compose a small note to express my thanks you for a few of the pleasant secrets you are showing on this webpage.

    • I’m happy to share my travels with anyone who is interested. Thanks for visiting.

I have recently just been to the Middle East and will update with new pictures of the desert, around Jordan and the Dead sea etc.

Hope you come back to check it out.

  12. Excellent article. Keep writing such kind of information
on your site. Im really impressed by your blog.

Hello there, You’ve done an excellent job. I’ll certainly
digg it and in my view suggest to my friends. I am confident they’ll be benefited from this website.

  13. Hi Craig,
    Hope you’re well…

Tried to find you on facebook but there’s like a million Craig Small’s.
Heard you had left Edinburgh so thought I’d wish you luck.

    Orra best!
    Virrun Singh

    • Cheers Virrun!

I leave for Tanzania tomorrow and will be there for a good few months. I don’t have Facebook so this is the only place for updates on what I’m up to!

      Catch you later,

      Craig

  14. Hey dude,
    How’s it going?
Just watching “Rude Tube” and the video I was trying to show you before was on it…

    Here it is

    • Hi Virrun, I’m not long back from my trip in Africa. Glad you remembered the blog I have to get in touch with that video. A very impressive account of his travels.

I’ve tried to save the currency of every country I visited as a reminder; saving one copy of each note like the equivalent of $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100, but it hasn’t worked quite as well as I’d have liked. I think I’ve got around 18 complete sets, and just bits and pieces from other countries.

This is a cool video though. I hope you’re keeping well.

      All the best,

      Craig

  15. Hey Craig, just found your website. Your travels look interesting, sure, but I thought you may be interested in some constructive criticism.

You seem to be more interested in yourself than the countries… for example ‘I was told by a member of the staff there that I was unusually calm in the moments leading up to the jump and tasked me with making it the best of the day. How hard could it be? All I had to do was jump when he told me, and I did so with an elegant swan-dive’ and ‘I had booked the room on a staff rate, although I used to work for IHG I wasn’t entitled to any discounts for myself. However, my girlfriend works for the same company and booked the room’.

I wish people would just enjoy travelling for themselves, rather than the opportunity to brag about where they’ve travelled, you know, the ‘I’ve been there’ culture. I enjoy travelling to experience different cultures and societies… not to talk about my swan dives or where my girlfriend works.

    • Hello Priya. So, you ‘wish people would just enjoy travelling for themselves’? Well, you can rest assured that is what I do and I’ll try not to be insulted that you think otherwise. I relish in being immersed in different cultures and societies and that is one of the huge factors that keeps me travelling the world.

However, in this blog of mine, I try to strike a balance between information on the countries and cities as well as what I specifically have done there for good reason. I do not exist on any social networking sites so can’t, as someone like you surely does, update my ‘status’ or tweet to friends about what I’m up to at any certain point, or upload pictures of holidays etc.

To that end I created this blog for my family and friends back home, and many friends in all the countries listed on the blog, to read about what I’m up to and keep in touch. Just as most people use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and all the rest of it.

I’ve tried to make the blog informative as well, to cater for anyone else in the world who may be interested in visiting these countries, but mainly this is my blog for those I care about to follow me around the world while I, just as you do, enjoy travelling and experiencing the different cultures and societies.

  16. That makes more sense I suppose. Especially if youre friends and family read it. I thought the blog was meant to be just be information which is why I was confused about all the personal comments and got a different impression of why you were writing the blog. Good luck with all your travels!

  17. Happy Birthday Craig, I hope all’s well with you too. Keep in touch.
    Best regards, Kevin & Valerie
